How to Float in the Middle of a Flood Week 1

Questions

  • Pray and invite God into this time with Him.

  • Have you ever experienced a flood in your life? Whether that be an actual flood with water or a metaphorical flood like a life-altering event or crisis?

  • How did you feel during that time? How do you feel about it now that it’s done? Or if you’re still in it right now, how do you feel about it?

  • Read Genesis 6:1,5.

  • Have you ever felt discouraged by your circumstances or choices you’ve made that continue to lead you in the wrong direction, away from God?

  • Read Genesis 6:8-9.

  • Why did Noah find favor with God?

  • Do you ever struggle to do what’s right? Does the pull of doing the wrong thing ever feel really strong? What are ways you can push back against the pull of doing the wrong thing and instead do the right thing?

  • Do you have that person in your life who just seems so whole and put together? What makes them that way? Is that person you for others?

  • If you’re gone through a flood in your life, what did it magnify in you?

  • What comes to mind when you hear the phrase “walking with God”?

  • What do you think of when you think about God?

Spiritual Practice

Reflection: Take a deep breath and reflect on the questions you just answered. Think about the hard times or ‘floods’ you’ve gone through in life. Reflect on how you reacted and maybe how you wish you would’ve handled it differently. Think about your relationship with God. Do you walk with God? Do you feel you have the type of relationship with God that He wants to have with you?

Prayer: Spend time in prayer with God. If you’ve been through floods in life and came out okay on the other side, thank God for bringing you through that time. If you really struggled during those times and maybe made some choices you regret, just tell God about it. Be honest with Him and ask Him to forgive you and help you move forward. Pray that God would help you invest in your relationship with Him.
