2 Samuel Week 2
Questions
Pray and invite God into this time with Him.
Read 2 Samuel 11:1-17 & 25-26.
Up to this point, we’ve seen many highpoints in David’s life such as his military success and becoming king. This is where we see a shift and some of his biggest mistakes take place. Describe what is happening in this passage.
Sin often starts with a subtle shift. Have you ever noticed this in your own life? Do you have any subtle shifts right now that you need to draw attention to before they escalate?
What happened when David tried to cover up his sin? How does covering up end up hurting those around us?
Read 2 Samuel 11:27. How did God feel about David’s sin?
Read 2 Samuel 12:7-14. Nathan the prophet approaches David about his sin and David finally confesses. What does the story of David & Bathsheba teach us about the consequences of sin, repentance (turning back to God), and God’s mercy?
What can we learn from Nathan about speaking in love? Are you typically open and receptive if you’re approached about something? Do you have people in your life who are willing to tell you the hard truths, in love?
Spiritual Practice
Confession: The Bible tells us in 1 John 1:9 that if we confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive us. We also know that all of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). Confess your sin to God. Find a trusted friend, mentor, or pastor that you can talk with about it. God is faithful to forgive.
