2 Samuel Week 1

Questions

  • Pray and invite God into this time with Him.

  • What did you know about David or the book of 2 Samuel prior to reading it?

  • Read 2 Samuel 7:1-17 & 25-26.

  • This chapter is key to understanding God’s greater story in all of Scripture. What does David ask Nathan? What does God tell Nathan to tell David in response? Make a list of all God says He will do or provide for David and for Israel.

  • David used to be a shepherd boy who tended sheep. How would you describe the difference between where David was and where he is now?

  • God said no to David’s original request to build a house (temple) for God. This “no” led to an even better “yes.” God promised to instead build up the house of David that eventually led to Jesus, a Kingdom that reigns forever. Has God ever answered “no” to something you prayed? How did that situation affect your relationship with God?

  • David prays with boldness. What do you need to pray for with boldness?

  • All kings and kingdoms will rise and fall, but Jesus is king forever. Is Jesus your king? Are you following Him?

Spiritual Practice

Reflection: Don’t forget where you’ve been and how far God’s brought you. Looking back, what has God brought you through? Is there anything you used to ask for that you now have? Or something you asked for, but purposely don’t have? Take a moment to reflect with God on what He’s brought you through.
