Recipe For A Wonder-filled Christmas: Week 2

Questions

  • Describe a memory you have about a Christmas tradition in your family.

  • Read Luke 2:6-20. Summarize this story in your own words.

  • Reread Luke 2:19. What do you think it means that Mary “kept something in her heart?”

  • What do you think it means to be present?

  • Do you struggle with being present during the holidays? How so?

  • The first ingredient to being present is to be where you are. What does this look like in your life? Are there things you need to say “no” to this year?

  • The next ingredient is to take it all in. What are some ways to notice the things around you and treasure the details of life?

  • The last ingredient is to think about it often. Create a way to write down the good things that happen. Make note of the ways God works in your life. Put it somewhere you see it often. Whatever you do, find a way to remember those things.

Spiritual Practice

Respond: Challenge yourself to stay away from screens for a specific amount of time. Maybe it’s 10, 20, or 60 minutes per day, or for an entire day during the week. If you do, what feelings came up in your soul in your time away from a screen? What did you learn from that process?

Reflect: Find space to spend time with Jesus this week to reflect on these practices. Where does God want to work in your life through you being present?
