Missions – Haiti
The Embrace School – (a)mbrase lekol In February of 2013, a group from Embrace traveled to Haiti for our first missions trip in partnership with Mission Haiti. Our hope was to find ways that we could continue to partner with Mission Haiti long-term and the Lord provided! During that trip, we came across a school of 150 kids in a small, mountain village called Jabouin. They didn’t have a school building and after seeing the need first-hand, it was crystal clear that Embrace needed to do something. So we partnered with Mission Haiti to build a school!
To start, we built a three-room preschool and kindergarten with the hopes that in the next year we would finish building the entire school for kids of all ages. How crazy is it that there was going to be a school in Haiti called the (a)mbrase lekol – literally the Embrace School?! And what’s even more awesome, is that through this partnership we’ll be providing so much more … work for the locals … a school for the kids … hope for the future … and an opportunity to share the love of the Lord!
In September 2013, Embrace sent a second missions team to Jabouin. Once the team arrived in the mountain village (which required intense hiking) they helped prepare the land for the school, moved cement blocks, set up tents for the temporary school building, met with the village council, hosted a 3-day VBS for 250+ kids and of course, spent time playing with them! It was incredible to see the village come to life with excitement about the school.
In February 2014, a team from Embrace returned to Jabouin to find the kids already holding classes in the Ambrase Lekol buildings! During the trip, they hosted a VBS and Movie Night (with hot popcorn!) for the kids, helped put the entire roof on and paint the school, hosted the 3rd annual 5k race and a bike clinic. Gretchen Shafer, Missions Coordinator, said “The best part of the trip was feeling the sense of community. It’s truly incredible to see the friendships and relationships that are forming between Embrace, the kids and locals in Haiti.”
Ongoing Missions Trips
In addition to building the school, Embrace will continue to work and serve in the village of Jabouin through ongoing missions trips. Our vision is to establish long-term relationships & love on this community! What’s next? We’re currently looking at a future missions trip that are listed below.
